Dave Pelzer, author of A Child Called "It"

In 1998 my first repressed memory from childhood surfaced with many more to follow. I was faced with years of healing ahead of me, actually a lifetime. I chose to heal in place of alcohol, drugs or suicide. As I began putting the puzzle of my life together I started writing my memoir to unwrap the years of secrets. At that time I made the decision not to read anyone else’s memoir about childhood abuse until my own was finished. This year I started reading the books of other survivors of childhood abuses and children who grew up in violent homes. I read Dave Pelzer’s A Child Called “It”, The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave.

WOW!

The heartache and the pain were excruciating, and that was just me reading it. He had to live with the tortures that almost took his life. Dave survived his early years of abuse, and matured both physically and mentally because he was rescued as a young boy.

I want the violence in our homes to stop and our children to be rescued from mentally ill parents. I know what happens to a child when they are not rescued and now I know what happens when they are; a Dave Pelzer is allowed to evolve.

Thank you Dave for all the hard work you do and the hours you put in and the schedules you keep to help our children. Thank you for inspiring us all.
